Prof. Basheer Ahmed took over as the Advisor cum Director of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology from December 2012. He worked as Principal of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology from August 2007 until December 2012.
He obtained his B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering and pursued his M.S. in Robotics & Automation and Ph.D. in Flexible Manufacturing System. He joined BHEL in September 1972 as an engineer and served in various capacities and retired as General Manager and In-Charge of Technology Development Laboratory, Advanced Material Handling Systems and Workshop of Corporate R & D, Hyderabad in June 2007.
While serving in BHEL he was awarded, The BHEL Excellence Award in productivity for development of New product - Automated Storage and Retrieval System during the year 2000-2001. Additionally, he excelled in his following contributions: CNC Technology, Electro Discharge Machining (EDM), Computer Aided Machining(CAM), CNC and DRO retrofitting Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), Advanced Material Handling Systems (AGV, ASRS), Robotics-Pick & Place Robots, Welding Robots Hot Machining, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), Precision Engineering and Microfabrication are included. He has 35 national and international research papers to his credit.
After superannuation from BHEL, he joined M.J.C.E.T. in the capacity of Principal in the year 2007. In his new role of an academic head, he has utilized his Industry acumen and gave a new academic and research orientation to M.J.C.E.T. Under his tenure as Principal, intake of Civil Engineering course increased from 60 to 120 which increased overall intake of B.E. programs from 720 to 780, and intake in M.E. Programs raised to 102 from 18. He has encouraged many staff members to pursue M.Tech. and Ph.D. and take up research projects, by introducing study Leave for faculty. Many staff members have availed this opportunity of qualification enhancement and now all faculty members are M.E. qualified and currently, there are 50 faculties with doctorate degrees. Under his dynamic and seasoned leadership, the M.J.C.E.T. placements have seen a huge growth in the number of campus selections, and as many as 2192 students have been placed in various MNC's from 2007 to 2012. He was also instrumental in starting the Robotics Center of M.J.C.E.T. which has brought many laurels to the college. In order to facilitate industry institute collaborations, he played an important role in establishing tie-ups with Industries such as ECIL, CITD, etc.
After serving as the principal from 2007 to 2012, he then took charge as Advisor cum Director, on 01-01-2013. Under his guidance, research centers were established in Mechanical and E.C.E. departments and Ph.D. scholars were allotted to M.J.C.E.T. by Osmania University. Departments of C.S.E., Civil and E.E.E. have also applied for Research centers and will shortly be ratified as Osmania University approved research centers. He was instrumental in the establishment of a dedicated Research and Development fund to support the in-house research projects of the students. Notable among those projects are: Demonstration of Millimeter Waves Experiment of Sir J. C. Bose, Refurbishing of Manual Spinning Charkha with Solar Power (patent filed), Automation in Drip Irrigation using PLC, Extraction of Bio-Diesel from Waste used Oils obtained from Restaurants, MAGLEV Wind Turbine, Encapsulating Wind power through Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine, Automated Guided Vehicle, Design, Analysis and Development of Prototype 30KVAR STATCOM, Control of Wheelchair using Hand Gestures, etc.
In order to enhance the employability skills of the students, under his guidance, the college signed MoUs with IT Giants like Microsoft, Redpine Signals, etc and college is registered with Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge TASK, a government of Telangana State initiative to enhance industry readiness among graduates. The number of placement offers made to the students on campus from 2013 till date stands at 1356. Under his sustained guidance, the institute has seen remarkable progress in academic excellence by many students securing ranks in top 10 positions in the University. It was also due to his seasoned administration acumen, M.J.C.E.T. emerged on the National Level as a consistently best-ranked Institute among Top 100 Government and Private Engineering College in India, by reputed magazines like The Week, Outlook, etc.
On the infrastructure side, the college has seen significant development with procurement of the state of art equipment and establishment of central facilities like e-Classrooms, Computer Innovation Center, Student activity center, Modern Lift Facilities, Wi-Fi Enabled campus, Staff Rooms and Personal computers to each faculty member, lush green gardens, seating facilities for students, etc.
