The Department of English has traditionally formed the bedrock on which the engineering education gets actualized through English thereby exerting a catalytic influence on Engineering and Technology. The Department puts high premium on students' soft skills, and distinctive cognitive skills like analysis and reasoning in order to make them 'industry ready'.
Since its inception in 1980,the Department has been supporting all the core Engineering departments viz. CED, ECE, CSE, EEE, EIE,IT, ME, PE, and MCA. It has been actively involved in conceiving, planning, implementing and monitoring student-centric, co-curricular and career development activities like soft skills training, verbal-analytical testing, counselling, developing presentation skills and conducting campus placement oriented training, to name a few. The Department ensures that the Teaching Learning Process is enriched though students' seminars, guest lectures by experts from academia and industry, ingenious assignments, use of interactive multimedia in the classroom, teachers' notes along with formative and summative evaluations.
The Department of English with its well equipped English language laboratories focuses on enhancing students' communication skills. While the CALL Lab provides full fledged computer assisted language learning, the Interactive, multi –media Labs enable students to equip themsleves with an array of much needed skills viz. public speaking, group discussion, debate and paper presentation, to name a few.
The Department offers special classes for Foreign Students and are available and willing to be of any assistance to senior students in editing their resumes and SOPs.
The Department actively participates in ADSOPHOS- the annual Technical Festival of MJCET, by hosting a variety of activities for students with a literary bent of mind.
The vibrantly active Orators' Club of the Dept. of English provides a platform for students to hone their oratory skills. Members of the Club have won numerous awards in competitions at the intercollegiate and State level.
These achievements are made possible due to highly experienced and dedicated faculty who contribute to imparting quality education envisioned by the College. Presently, the Department has 5 faculty members, all Assistant Professors actively involved in academic leadership activities. Of these five faculty members, two have completed PhD, one is on the verge of doing so and two others are pursuing PhD.
The department is deeply committed to developing and strengthening the learners’ soft skills, enhancing employability; inspiring and motivating students to live ethical, fulfilling lives with a strong sense of personal accountability and civic responsibility.
